I love the Zen Habits website and a recurring theme there is the power of simplicity.Of course, living a simple lifestyle is not a new concept – indeed, it is at the root of most spiritual traditions.
But the rampant consumerism of recent years, and the tendency to over-engineer eveything, has put the focus on simplicity once more.
I wrote an article a while back pointing out that we are all to blame for both consumerism and the financial crash. We fed the flames of the credit boom, confusing our needs with our wants, buying into the marketing that convinced us that the latest gadgets, clothes, accessories were all “must haves”. In this artcile, I want to look at its implications for SMEs in partiular, though the principles can be applied in other areas.
