“The most terrible poverty is loneliness and the feeling of being unloved.” Mother Theresa
The festive season focuses on families and being with loved ones. Yet a lot of people will start 2010 on their own. Some because their partner is working overseas; others because they have no one to see in the New Year with. Here are a few ideas, especially for those in the second category:
- Visit an old people’s home – spend time with someone who has no-one
- Ring a friend who’s alone and have New Year’s Day lunch with them
- Visit a children’s home/orphanage and offer to help out at lunchtime on New Year’s day – let the kids start the year with love
- Buy chocolate and buy/rent a comedy dvd
- Put on your stereo and dance wildly around the floor – it’s ok, nobody’s watching you
- Buy yourself an extra special book on Amazon; have it gift wrapped with a card saying ‘Because you’re worth it’.
